This article is about a misleading argument in favor of constructing the Keystone XL pipeline. It explains how both the photograph and the claims about the pipeline are misleading, but can still be considered true. The ad makes the pipeline seem like a good idea despite the environmental damage it would do and the fact that it will ensure US dependence on fossil fuels, in this case petroleum.
I think dependence on fossil fuels is a serious problem in our society. It is getting continuously more expensive, and puts large amounts of greenhouse gases into the air. Harvesting fossil fuels also causes land degradation and water pollution. A solution to this problem is relying more on renewable and more easily accessible energy sources, such as wind and solar. While these also have drawbacks, I think the costs of alternative energy are lesser than the costs of fossil fuels.
